In 1978 Ernie left the Navy and began a career in industry. Ernie was an R&D technician, Manufacturing Test Engineer, Field Service Manager, Technical Writer, Technical Instructor, and Equipment Maintenance Manager.
This picture is a carburetor isolator on a single cylinder snow blower engine. The surface is not flat, which causes air to leak into the intake manifold. The symptoms were that the engine was running in a lean condition, and was hard to start and would not run without the choke. Seems simple, but this is an overlooked problem of the kind that Ernie finds.

This is by far the most asked question, which is partly answered by the business sign on the front of the building and on the business card. I repair appliances and small engines. But the truth is I enjoy a challenge, and I rarely say NO. I have worked on municipal water and sewer systems, Automobiles, Side by Sides, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, mowers, weed eaters, washine machines dryers, furnaces, PWCs, refrigerators, industrial controls, snow throwers, boats.
Yes, it often makes more sense for me to come to the equipment rather than for the equipment to come to me. I charge $2 per mile outside of Glasgow plus $50 per hour while on site. Minimum charge is one hour, or $50.
Yes. I have a square account, and a PayPal account for taking credit cards. I also accept cash and checks.

Yes. I am pleased to share my knowledge, but I can tell you from experience that it isn't always that simple, and it does take me more time to fix something that has already been fiddled with.
Yes, I can do that. However, I do have experience with buying parts from a variety of vendors and some are better than others. Some knock off parts do not last, and other parts are over-priced. In some cases, shipping charges are as much as the part.
An example is an automobile that has an emission system fault code for lean condition. This fault could be caused by a dirty or failed oxygen sensor, but it could also be caused by an unmetered air leak downstream of the the mass air flow sensor. A smoke test of the air intake system would be a good idea before changing the oxygen sensor.
A lean condition fault can also be caused by a leak in the exhaust system, allowing atmospheric oxygen to get to the oxygen sensor. A smoke test would be used here as well.
When a lean condition exists, the computer will run the fuel trim to the maximum to try to richen the mixture. Max fuel trim will lower gas mileage and possibly damage your catalytic converter.
